Pool Fencing Requirements

Whether you’re having a new pool built from scratch, or you’re making the necessary updates to ensure your backyard meets the Victorian regulations, then there are a number of things to keep in mind. We’ve outlined the major standards that must be met below, but make sure you double check with the relevant bodies before the installation process begins.

  • All pool fencing must meet AS1926-2012
  • Any residential pool or spa deeper than 30cm will need a safety barrier – including inflatable pools;
  • Pools built after 2010 need to be fenced on all four sides, without any access from the house or garage;
  • Fencing must be at least 120cm high, whilst pool fencing that doubles as a boundary fence must be at least 180cm high;
  • The gates must be self-closing and self-latching – it’s illegal to keep them propped open; and
  • No pot plants, eskies, furniture, or anything climbable can be kept near the fence – a non-climbable zone on 90cm is a must, and boundary trees will need to be kept trimmed.

Fencing Options and Styles

Keeping your family safe doesn’t have to look plain and boring. We have a range of fencing options which don’t just meet regulations, but look great while they’re doing it! Our team can work with you to ensure your pool ties in perfectly with your architectural style and personal taste. These are the most common options for pool fencing installation in the Mornington Peninsula.

Glass fencing is a luxurious choice and complements almost all properties. Offering a completely transparent finish, it’s designed to appear as though it isn’t there at all – perfect for those who want to take advantage of their backyard views or make their pool space look larger than it is. Available in both frameless and semi-frameless, its seamless finish comes at a cost, as it’s one of the more expensive options on the market.

Metal fencing is also an attractive option, and – with a huge range of styles and finishes to choose from – can also suit almost any home. When it comes to steel or aluminium fencing, our number one tip is to look for colours and shapes that are already in use around your property. That way, you can create a cohesive look that perfectly suits your house.

As you can see, proper pool fencing installation is necessary to keep your family safe, as well as ensure your backyard complies with industry regulations. In fact, if you’re investing in a new pool, it can’t even be filled until a fence has been properly installed. Luckily, the team at Baden Pools isn’t just skilled in pool construction – we’re experts in adding fences too, and can choose the perfect style to suit both your pool and your home.
