Retaining walls play an important part in shaping your backyard, particularly if your land is sloped. They need to be engineered and can be costly but this will depend on the height.
We have built many retaining walls as a part of pool construction – our steel work is run up out of the shell, forming a wall, and concreted with the pool. We have constructed walls from 300mm high through to 2m high directly on top of the pool wall, which becomes the footing. Alternatively, a block retaining wall can be built on top of the pool wall.
This all needs to be decided prior to construction and taken into account in the engineers design. All retaining walls need a building permit.
Retaining walls are not just built on top of the pool wall; they can be built anywhere on the property where you need to retain the earth. They can be built out of block, core filled and rendered, built on a footing or a sleeper wall, or even built as a rock wall.
As they usually form a visual part of the landscape, retaining walls can be left as is or dressed up with a nice finish and lighting. If you would prefer to hide the wall from view, simply plant in front of it.
Baden Pools can build retaining walls for pools in all areas of Melbourne, including: Beaumaris, Sandringham, Brighton, Black Rock, Mt Martha, Mt Eliza, Hampton, Portsea, Malvern, Balnarring, Mornington Peninsula and Blairgowrie.
